Ive been away for a while, or at least, away from the blog for a while. But…..
New Job!
The summer semesters are kind of a drain for me Ive been doing a Data Analysis class and because its a summer course, it just becomes a huge drain having to get out of work, and watch an hour long video every day. Besides my class, I ended up getting a new job. Im still at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, but instead of being a Support Analyst
, I am now a Systems Analyst / Developer
. I remember a long time, I was asked if I would ever like being in a position like this, and I think at the time I turned the college down, mostly because I had virtually zero experience with Banner, the colleges SIS. Had the college used any other SIS, I probably would have been one million times more comfortable saying maybe.
That being said, when the position opened up I applied. I had been getting burnt out, and have been doing AV, Endpoint Management, and all those other good things for almost 6 years. Truth be told, a long time ago, in 2019 when I was going to college the first time. I had wanted to be a Developer, and had went to school under a Computer Science Major. It wasnt until I dropped out, and ended up working in IT that I decided to change degrees to Computer Information Systems. Now Ive made a full 360. Its funny how life works some days. I throughly enjoy my new position though. Most of my job consists of now implementing, building, and managing systems for the college. I certainly have a long way to go before I would say im comfortable in the position. For the time being though, I think im making it work and will grow into the position soon.
Media
Otherwise, Ive been hooked on some manga! If I were to recommend you manga to read, I would in order recommend the following.
Warning, there is quite a bit of sensitive content (trigger warning) in the manga that I am recommending below including, but not limited to child suicide, child abuse and neglect, depression and mental illness, violence and death. So if those things are offlimits for you, unfortunately nothing on this list is a good idea for you to read.
Tokopi’s Original Sin
oh-my-gosh. You have have have to read this manga (or watch the anime). Its probably the best manga I have read in a while. I probably read all 18 chapters in under two days. From start to finish I was hooked. This manga is so sad, and made me feel absolutely aweful at times. To give you a general overview, there is a squid, who is from a alien planet called the planet of happiness
, and is sent to earth to make people happy. In an effort to do so, he learns about the human experience. He attempts to reverse time to make things better, but ultimately makes all things worse. It ends in a sweet way, and is definetly worth a read.
This manga is also supposedly a anime, and if it is as good as the manga, I 100% recommend you watch it. Though personally, I do not know if I could really watch this given the content thats covered in the manga. Some things for me are better left on a page, in my phone or in a book than animated in my brain.
100000/100%, you need to read this ASAP.
Goodnight Punpun
Im about a quarter through this manga, and it has been phenomenal. I would say that the topics are generally very, very mature. Im currently in a flashback arc, of the main characters uncle’s back story, and oh-my-goodness is it interesting. Its a very slow build up, and the beginning is super important, because it sets a base for the rest of the manga (everything comes back to the beginning of the manga). If your looking for a larger manga to commit to, I would recommend this, though again there are very very mature themes in this manga.
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees
I have only read 4 out of 17 chapters. From what I have read, its relatively interesting and gets straight to the point (a murder happens in like the second chapter), though it is way more of a manhwa or webtoon style than I am used too. Sometimes, I try and wait until manhwa are done just because they take quite a bit longer to release since they have to color and draw everything. Probably when I get bored with Goodnight Punpun, I will go through and finish out the last few chapters in this one.
